One type of well-researched meditation is Loving Kindness Meditation (LKM). It emphasizes on compassion, love, and kindness, toward the self, loved ones, others you know, strangers, and even people you dislike.
The practice usually involves, simply put: At a quiet place, silently repeat phrases such as “May I/you be happy”, “May I/you live with ease”, “May I/you be free from suffering”, etc.; directing the sequence of phrases first at oneself, then at others, from close ones to neutral ones to difficult ones.
